About Decktly

Decktly is a free local editor for AI-generated HTML presentations. You open a deck, edit it directly, leave comments, and save - and your file stays yours the whole time. It comes in two forms that work the same way under the hood: a desktop app (Windows and Apple Silicon Macs) and a browser version at app.decktly.com.

The core promise: Decktly never receives any information about your HTML file - not its contents, not its filename, not its path. In both the desktop app and the browser, the file is read from and written straight back to your own disk. Optional AI assistants send content to your selected provider. Shared folders and resources referenced by a deck may also use the network.

The desktop app

The desktop app opens your .html deck from your own disk and saves your edits straight back to the same file locally. Editing, formatting, comments, and instructions are all processed on your machine - there's no server in the loop for any of it. Comments and instructions are stored inside the .html file itself, so they travel with the file and follow the file when you copy it or sync it through a service such as OneDrive.

The app uses network services for account access and updates. Additional connections depend on the features you enable and the resources your HTML file references. Manual editing does not upload the deck to Decktly. If you choose to launch one of the optional AI assistants, it sends your deck content directly from your machine to your own AI provider under your own subscription - never through our servers.

The browser version

The browser version runs entirely as a web page - nothing to install. Without an account you can open, edit, and comment. Saving needs an account and only works in desktop Chrome or Edge. Safari, Firefox, and mobile browsers cannot save local files. The page uses your browser's built-in File System Access feature to read and write your deck directly on your own disk, without uploading the file to Decktly for editing. AI features, export to PDF or PowerPoint, and the file explorer are desktop-only.

Account access uses network services. Resources referenced by your HTML and any file-sharing service you choose have their own network behaviour.

Why it's built this way

Decks often contain sensitive material. By keeping every file strictly on your own machine and making AI and sharing workflows explicit, Decktly stays useful for confidential work without asking you to trust a cloud with your documents. Your IT department determines the approval process for your environment.
